Write to win

Our popular Champions Journalist competition for fans returns for a third season; pen an article about your side for the chance to win great prizes

Issue 10

Ever wanted to write about your team? Well, now’s your chance. We’re looking for supporters from every side in the last 16 of this season’s Champions League to be our Champions Journalist fan reporters for the knockout stage. Just write us an article about what makes your club special and we’ll pick the best, with the winning authors joining our team of Champions Journalist fan reporters. Every winning writer will see their work published and receive a year’s subscription to Champions Journal. In addition, we will dish out two tickets to the home leg of your team’s semi-final – should they get that far, of course.

How to enter

To be in with a chance of winning, write us a story of 400 words or less about your team.

You can choose what you want to write about, but make it unique to you. Perhaps you want to tell us why you began supporting your team, or their most memorable match you’ve seen live. Maybe it’s memories of a favourite player, the atmosphere in the ground on a Champions League night or simply what sets your team apart from all the others in Europe.

It could be your matchday routine: where you meet friends before the game, where you eat or have a drink and when you get to the ground. Maybe you want to write about the best chant, all-time favourite kit or the greatest goal you’ve seen one of your players score in this storied competition. What we don’t want is a straight match report; what we do want is whatever catches your imagination. Go beyond the 90 minutes – and just make sure it gets to us by 31 January 2022.

Our 16 winners will all have their articles published on our website, while the best could even be published in the printed magazine. We will then ask you to write a piece about the home leg of every game your team plays until they are knocked out, with each one also finding a home on our homepage.

Join our growing network of fans across the world and have your say

When we started Champions Journal in 2019, one of our goals was to get you, the fans, involved as much as possible, providing a platform for your stories and ideas. And we weren’t limiting you to the football. The tagline of the mag is ‘beyond the 90 minutes’, which meant we wanted to hear about anything that caught your eye that was even remotely connected to your team: your city, your favourite music, your go-to bars, your taste in fashion and much more besides.

Every season we run a competition called Champions Journalists (see above), which invites fans to write about those subjects and get published. Now we've created a space where fans can interact with each other, not just us. We might steer the conversation depending on features that are going into the mag; perhaps we’ll have a question about the greatest game you’ve seen your team play in the Champions League, or the best bar for a pre-match drink. But otherwise, the floor is yours.

Our hope is that the Champions Journal Community will provide a great space for you to meet fans of other teams from other countries, sharing experiences about this great competition. Some of you know us already. But those of you who don’t, we’re looking forward to meeting you!
