Cole Palmer, Cole Palmer… the guy who wrote the music for Kiss Me,Kate?

No, that would be the deceased composer and songwriter Cole Porter.

Yes, that’s him. Who’s this then?

Cole Palmer is the Manchester City prodigy who just got a bit more prodigious thanks to coming on and scoring a lovely little goal against Club Brugge – his first in the Champions League.

Great work. Was Pep pleased?

Yes, but he made a plea for patience via the medium of a culinary metaphor: “You cannot cook a good dish if you don't spend time in the kitchen.

This Palmer chap is simmering nicely though.

He was certainly cooking on gas last Saturday: he came on for a couple of minutes against Burnley in the Premier League, then headed off to play in an academy game against Leicester straight afterwards – and scored a hat-trick for good measure.

He’s certainly endearing himself to the locals, then.

Yes, not least because he is one himself: he was born in Wythenshawe, but a few miles from City’s stadium. A boyhood fan, he joined the club when he was eight.

Right you are.

And left he is – left-footed, that is. And his eye for goal means he has also been known to play as a striker in the youth ranks.

A chef wears many hats.

Maybe stop with the food-related puns now.

Leaving a bad taste in the mouth?

Seriously, leave it.
