Borussia Dortmund

If you’re browsing through social media in need of a chuckle, look no further than Borussia Dortmund’s official English account (@blackyellow), which is packed with hilarious memes. Be it a video of a fish watching Marco Reus highlights on a phone, or Marcel Sabitzer hatching out of an eagle egg, their creativity knows no bounds. While a lot of this will easily resonate with the Gen Z crowd, our more seasoned readers may need some help decoding the nuances of internet culture. It’s definitely worth it.

Juventus are back in the European elite with their trademark black-and-white stripes overlain with a subtle textured pattern mimicking the moon’s cratered landscape. Bayern’s triple red home kit combines three shades of the club’s iconic colourway with stripes formed of Bavarian diamond pattern, while Arsenal take a trip down memory lane with the iconic cannon logo returning to a home shirt for the first time in 35 years.

Shortly after adidas and our latest cover star Stormzy collaborated to open the #Merky FC HQ in London (more on that later), they joined forces yet again to put a unique spin on the iconic adidas Predator boot, which has grabbed headlines in 2024. And this boot is unmistakable, with its unique bright yellow detailing on the black base and the Merky logo on the tongue and the sole of the boot. José Mourinho

José Mourinho’s unveiling to the Fenerbahçe faithful was nothing short of rapturous and recently he has taken centre stage for another reason: headlining a new adidas Originals collection. As he enjoys the simplicity of Portuguese life sipping espressos at street cafés, he sports a bespoke outfit with an all-black track top and trousers, a white T-shirt and a light-brown, suede version of the classic Samba sneaker. José can make even a normal morning look special.

Ultimate Edition

The latest edition of EA SPORTS’ iconic football video game under its new FC guise lands on September 27, in time for the Champions League kick-off. Jude Bellingham appears on the Standard Edition front, but it is the Ultimate Edition that is particularly striking, where Jude is joined by Aitana Bonmatí, David Beckham, Zinédine Zidane and Gianluigi Buffon. They are accompanied by 17 of the world’s most coveted football trophies — including the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Women’s Champions League and UEFA Europa League among others. Best of the best? We say yes. We’ll have copies to give away when the game launches, so keep your eyes on our competitions page on champions-journal.com.

Kylian Mbappé aside, a few other moves have caught our eye even before the transfer frenzy hits its peak

Riccardo Calafiori

In 2018, a calamitous tackle ruptured the defender’s meniscus ligaments, casting doubts over his career. Fast-forward to 2024, Calafiori was integral to getting Bologna into the Champions League and Italy’s best outfield performer at EURO 2024, earning the 22-year-old a big move to Arsenal.

Serhou Guirassy

The Guinean enjoyed a remarkable campaign for Stuttgart, bagging 28 league goals to finish as the second top scorer in the Bundesliga and helping fire his side to second spot. No surprise then that Champions League runners-up Dortmund snapped him up.

Dani Olmo

One of the brightest stars of Spain’s EURO 2024 triumph with knockout goals against Georgia, Germany and France, the Leipzig midfielder/winger returns to his boyhood club Barcelona ten years after departing.

Michael Olise

In his third season at Crystal Palace, attacking midfielder Olise hit new heights with 16 goal involvements in 19 league games. Bayern sat up and took notice, and a year after signing Harry Kane they returned to London snap up the 22-year-old. Oh, and while in the English capital, they also signed João Palhinha from Fulham.
