Parc des Princes
Saint-Germain decorated their stadium with a stunning tifo. Spanning half the stadium – from the Auteuil end to the Boulogne end – massive lettering spelled out the slogan “Allez Paris” (Go Paris), either side of a vintage version of the club’s logo. It seemed to do the trick, as the hosts progressed to the final four.
Adidas x Marvel
The joy of crossovers is usually confined to the entertainment industry, with characters from one film franchise suddenly popping up in another. But now Marvel have taken things to the next dimension by teaming up with adidas – and graphic (in a good way) football boots are the result. The X Ghosted+ has got a Cyclops makeover, while the Predator Freak+ (see boot review,) has merged with the X-Men’s Wolverine (pictured). Characterful.

2001
These are the gloves that Bayern München goalkeeper Oliver Kahn wore on the night of 23 May 2001, when he saved penalties from Valencia’s Zlatko Zahovič, Amedeo Carboni and Mauricio Pellegrino in the shoot-out to earn the Bundesliga giants their fourth European Cup. And that wasn’t all that the normally fierce Bayern goalie won that evening: he was presented with the UEFA Fair Play Award for consoling his opposite number, Santiago Cañizares, at the end of the game. Sweet.
DNA Films, Passion Pictures, Ventureland
Ferguson directed by… Ferguson. Who better to tell the story of Manchester United’s managerial great than his son, Jason? He does a commendable job of squeezing his dad’s storied career into 110 minutes, profiling both the personal and professional life of one of Britain’s greatest ever managers.
Sir Alex left a huge imprint on football, far beyond the stands of Old Trafford, and this intimate portrait explores the life he’s led between growing up on the streets of Govan and enjoying his retirement. It’s well earned, especially when you take into account his devastating brain haemorrhage in 2018, when doctors only gave him a 20% chance of survival. The two-time Champions League winner feared he might lose his memory and it was during recovery, recounting tales of yore to hisfamily, that the idea for this documentary took shape. No matter your allegiance, it’s an inspiring story.
