Jocko Mackay and Jack Cochrane of Glasgow band The Snuts hit the CJ turntable

Issue 08

1. California by Joni Mitchell

“I should really be going with Chelsea Dagger and stuff like that,” says Cochrane. Instead he's opted for Mitchell’s love letter to the Golden State.

2. I Am by Nathaniel Rateliff

A stripped-back gem from Rateliff’s Falling Faster Than you Can Run album. “It’s my main jam at the moment,” says Cochrane of the American singer-songwriter's 2014 effort.

3. Don't Swallow the Cap by The National

“It’s amazing,” says Cochrane, before adding, “I’m quite sad with music – I only like the sad stuff.” To be fair though, it is a cracking tune.

4. Don't Wanna by Haim

“I don’t wanna give up on you,” sing the US sister trio, echoing the thoughts of 90% of football fans at the end of another disappointing season. (Now wouldn't be the time to bring up Scotland's group-stage exit.)

5. Red Red Wine by UB40

“I’m a playlist listener,” says Mackay. “I'll pick a playlist, stick it on shuffle and see what happens.” This 1983 hit is one that crops up.
